Seminar Tahunan Lingustik (SETALI) is an international conference organized by the Linguistics Study Program of the Graduate School of Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia and Masyarakat Linguistik Indonesia. The conference aims to provide space for language experts both nationally and internationally as well as language practitioners to disseminate thoughts and findings related to the current phenomenon of the language. In addition, this conference is an effort to respond to the increasingly complex phenomenon of language in this era of globalization.
This year, SETALI has the theme of "Language in the Digital Era: Chances or Threats?". This theme is chosen due to the increasing use of language in new media such as the Internet platforms or online social media. Besides, this phenomenon brings an opportunity for language to evolve dynamically. The Internet has encouraged the youths to be more creative in using the language. The language used by this generation is quite different from the formal one. As a result, language (and other semiotic sources) evolved in this digital age. On the other hand, this phenomenon becomes a challenge and a special concern for the language planners, language observers and language experts.
The 6th SETALI event is presented as the mediator to respond to problems related to the language phenomenon in this digital era. The language planners, language practitioners, and language experts are expected to contribute their ideas in scientific writing and present it at this linguistic conference.
